We offer services across all types of dog training in Wirral, Cheshire, and
Liverpool. Based in Heswall, Wirral, our training ground is the hub for all group classes and most 1:1s
(although home visits are available). We offer dog training for all needs. Whether you are looking to join
puppy training classes or challenge your dog's obedience and agility, there is something for
everyone.
Wirral K9 Academy aims to improve the understanding and confidence of the dog and the
owner. Chris explains the why behind the training, giving class demonstrations and guiding owners to help
their dogs with consistency and well-timed rewards.
Our group training classes are designed around
real-life applications - no walking around cones in a car park here! Our dog training courses give your dog
realistic distractions you will likely encounter during your walks (like other dogs and people) and equip
you with the necessary tools and strategies.
Our dog training classes are suitable for a range of
abilities and interests. We cover puppy, adolescent, and adult dog training and specialise in protection
training, scent work, and reactive dogs.

Our popular group classes last one hour and run on weekday evenings and Saturday mornings.
Wirral K9 Academy puppy classes are designed to build your pup's confidence with and without you from the
very start. We share the correct socialisation needed to help your dog grow into a well-balanced family
dog.
Progressing from puppy classes, we offer adolescence and adult dog training classes. Here, we
cover more in-depth dog obedience commands and work in partnership with your dog to challenge commands'
communication, speed and consistency. Our advanced class work in perfect partnership with their dogs, both
enjoying the mental and physical stimulation from the classes.
Our fire jump session is always a
favourite with our advanced obedience class!

If you aren't ready for a class environment, your dog is reactive, or you want
personalised training, we have 1:1 sessions available with Chris. These sessions can be at the training
ground or delivered at your home as a home visit (for those in-house specific behaviours you need help
with). Each session is an hour long and is tailored to you and your dog to achieve the best progression
possible.
If you're concerned about your dog's problem behaviour and have reached the point of
seeking expert advice, Chris can help. With hundreds of client reviews for reactive dog transformations or
helping to re-engage the most disengaged dogs, there is always a way to train your dog.
You can book
a 1:1 slot that works for your schedule on our How to
Book page.
Wirral K9 offers protection dog training sessions, delivered as 1:1 tailored sessions to meet
the needs and goals of the dog and owner team. Chris has proven results with his own dogs, competing and
winning several working trials and AVD competitions . Expert decoying is needed when building a confident
protection dog. Chris works with the dogs to know how and when to ask for more from them to get the best
results.
Dogs are taught the necessary commands to watch a target, 360 protection for handlers, and
bark and bite on cue. The aim of these sessions is to ensure consistent control across all situations. Chris
works with owners to help their dogs reach their potential. It is important to note that protection dog
training is not suitable for every dog and owner—if you have any questions about whether you are a suitable
pairing for the training, contact us.
Working professionally as a sniffer dog handler, Chris has real-life experience searching
for many wanted substances. Scent classes at Wirral K9 are not just for those with a scent background. Many
of our owners try a scent class alongside group classes to offer their dogs further mental stimulation and
apply their obedience training.
In these classes, we work from the basics of interesting a dog in
finding a scent, all the way to proactively searching throughout the training ground for the targeted
scent/object.
What percentage consistency is your dog's recall? Do you avoid taking them off the lead in open
spaces, fearing they will bolt? Does your stomach fall to your boots when you see another dog on your walks
due to reactivity?
Your dog is a part of your family, and we all know that well-behaved dogs are more
likely to be taken to activities with the family unit, such as pubs, restaurants, or coffee shops. Our
residential training is an intense personalised programme to tackle your dog's problem
behaviours.
Whether your dog is showing increased or prolonged dog reactivity, disengagement during
walks, or zero recall on a walk, a residential training block can get you positive results
quickly.
During residential stays, your dog has undivided attention and expert training from Chris,
working for you to achieve the progression you may not have time to chip away at.
